Therapeutic Massage

The ancients knew one of the ways to an aligned, healthy body was massage. Writings from Rome, Greece, India, Japan, China, Egypt, and Mesopotamia all reference the practice, as does the Bible. In medical studies, massage has been shown to reduce pain, anxiety, stress, depression, and high blood pressure; increase alertness; and positively stimulate the immune system.

Medical benefits aside, massage just feels good. In our busy lives, we accumulate stress and put off rest and self-care, and it becomes necessary to slow down and treat ourselves. In my practice, I have created a soothing, peaceful atmosphere where you can let go of the outside world and take a much-needed, healing break. My aim is for you to return to the hustle and bustle of everyday life with a renewed sense of wellbeing and relaxation.

I offer a variety of massage modalities, listed below. Please call me to discuss which types of therapy* would best serve your body’s needs. You can contact me for an appointment here.

  • Swedish – Good for those with stiff joints, arthritis, poor circulation, and generalized pain. The variety of strokes used in Swedish massage makes it a great introduction to bodywork.
  • Deep Tissue – An excellent technique for athletes or those working past an injury, deep tissue massage works on the muscles below the top level, relieving aches in the connective tissues below. My deep tissue work can include trigger point therapy or myofascial release, depending on your needs.
  • Trigger point therapy – Deep work on nodules of muscle fibers that can spasm and/or cause referred pain (i.e. headaches from shoulder nodules).
  • Myofascial release – Used to increase range of motion, relieve pain and help with the sense of balance, this technique stretches the soft tissue, skin and muscles.
  • Reflexology – This therapy works energetically by focusing on points in the hands and feet that correlate to every other area of the body (organs, glands and systems) in order to treat pain or disease.
  • Sports massage – Perfect for before or after your big event, or while in training. A combination of massage modalities, sports massage sometimes incorporates assisted stretching to help increase range of motion, or focuses on one area of the body that needs the most attention (i.e. low back, hips and hamstrings for runners with sciatica).
  • Reiki – An energetic balancing of body, mind and spirit, this ancient Japanese therapy can produce a sense of wellbeing, deep relaxation, and emotional release.
  • Craniosacral therapy – Helpful with gently releasing emotional and psychological traumas, this technique focuses on softly manipulating the skull and spine. Craniosacral therapy is especially healing and useful for infants who have had traumatic births and are experiencing issues as a result.
  • Shiatsu-acupressure – Focused on the body’s energy meridians, this therapy uses hands, fingers, thumbs, palms, and elbows to apply pressure to acupressure points in order to release tensions and to get energy flowing.

Loofah exfoliation and hot aromatherapy towels can be added to any treatment for additional fee.
